Abstract:

Karin Hügel, Studien zu queeren Lesarten der Hebräischen Bibel ("Studies on Queer Readings of the Hebrew Bible")

Studies on Queer Readings of the Hebrew Bible deals with non-normative sexualities in the Tanakh or the Old Testament and related Jewish and Christian exegetical traditions, as well as with certain works belonging to the visual arts. Queer readings are developed within the framework of intertextuality. Passages of the Hebrew Bible, as well as rabbinic sayings that build upon them, are read queerly. Furthermore, European works of art from the Renaissance, the Baroque period, and the 19th century are discussed, addressing pederasty, effeminate men or sexually ambivalent figures. This serves to confirm the quasi-queer readings already extant prior to contemporary scientific biblical interpretations.
